How we help

Roof Replacement New Salem Homeowners Can Plan Around

Sooner or later, every roof in town reaches the end of its life. A replacement is a big decision, so we explain what we see, what it will take and how long your home will be open to the weather. Here is the work New Salem homes ask for most.

A replacement also gives us the chance to correct what was wrong with the old roof. Poor attic ventilation, a missing drip edge and worn flashing around chimneys are all fixed as part of the job, not left for later.

  • Roof replacement: the old roof comes off, the deck is checked and repaired, and new underlayment, flashing and shingles go on in order.
  • Roof repair: a single leak or a patch of wind-torn shingles gets fixed properly, without replacing a roof that still has years left.
  • Gutters: new gutters and downspouts move snowmelt and summer rain away from the house and its foundation.
  • Metal roofing: steel is a durable option for farm shops, garages and homes that want a roof built for strong wind.
  • Siding: fresh siding seals out drafts and finishes the exterior to match a new roof.
About the town

Salem Sue Country: Notes From a Roofer in New Salem, ND

New Salem traces its start to April 1882, when John Christiansen stepped off a westbound freight train, and the town was founded the following year. It sits about 24 miles west of Mandan and 31 miles west of Bismarck, one mile south of Interstate 94. Anyone who has driven past exit 127 knows Salem Sue, the 38-foot Holstein cow sculpture in plain view on the south side of the highway.

Out here, roofing New Salem ND homes is a job for careful hands. Wind across the prairie works at shingle edges and ridge caps, and the cold, snowy winters common to this part of the state put every seam to the test. We pay close attention to starter strips, ridge vents and fasteners, the details that keep a roof sealed in a strong west wind.

New Salem shares Morton County with Mandan, the county seat and the next stop on our drive back east. From exit 127, ND Highway 31 heads north toward Hazen, and the interstate carries on east to Bismarck.

Gutters New Salem ND Homes Need for Spring Melt

Gutters work quietly through most of the year, then manage an enormous volume of water when accumulated snow finally melts. A gutter that sags, leaks at the seams or empties right beside the foundation can send that water into a basement or crawl space. Ice that builds up in a clogged gutter can also back water up under the bottom row of shingles.

As your roofer in New Salem, ND, we size gutters and downspouts to the roof above them and pitch them so water keeps moving. Downspouts are placed to carry water away from the house rather than onto walks or against the foundation. Properly positioned extensions protect landscaping, foundations and basement walls from repeated saturation. When a roof replacement is already planned, adding new gutters at the same time keeps the trim and drip edge working together.

Storm Season and Your New Salem Home

Thunderstorms roll across Morton County in spring and summer, and some of them bring hail and strong wind. Afterward, structural and cosmetic roof damage is not always visible from the yard. A bruised shingle can keep shedding water for a while and then fail during the next heavy rain.

If you suspect a storm hit your home, we inspect the roof, gutters and siding and photograph everything we find. We can meet your insurance adjuster at the house and walk the roof together. The claim decision rests with your insurer, and an experienced roofer in New Salem, ND makes sure the record is complete before anyone decides.

Had Draxen construction out to take care of our roof in Bismarck, and they did an excellent job. The crew showed up ready to work, communicated throughout the project, and paid attention to the little details. Everything was done professionally, and they made sure the property was cleaned up before leaving. It's hard to find contractors who take pride in their work but Draxen definitely delivered. Highly recommend them for roofing in the Bismarck area!

Draxen crew came and did vinyl siding on my house. Everything came out just the way I thought it would. Everything was straight and they had cuts really precise. They even went around all the openings with caulk to seal up holes and edges around fixtures on the house. They held themselves in a professional manner while working on my house. When they found an issue with the house they brought it to my attention and we found a solution fairly quickly so they could keep working. They offer multiple solutions and didn’t make me feel strong armed while needing the services. Very good company in all and will be using them again for anything exterior. Very reasonably priced as well.

New Salem FAQs

Answers for New Salem Homeowners

(701) 504-9808
How far do you travel to reach New Salem?

New Salem is about 31 miles west of Bismarck, where our shop sits at 1907 Morrison Ave. Our crew makes the trip on Interstate 94 for estimates, repairs and full roof replacements. To get on the schedule, call (701) 504-9808 Monday to Saturday between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, and we will set a time to see your home.

Can you replace the roof and gutters on my New Salem home in one project?

Yes. Replacing the roof and gutters together is often the smart order, because the drip edge, fascia and gutters all meet at the same line. One crew handles both, so the pieces fit and the schedule stays simple. We go over the gutter size, downspout locations and color choices during your estimate.

Do you work on farm shops and garages outside New Salem?

Yes. We roof detached garages, farm shops and other outbuildings as well as houses. Steel panels are a common choice for these buildings because they handle wind and shed snow well. We inspect the framing before quoting, so you know whether the structure needs any repair before the new roof goes on.

What signs mean my New Salem roof needs attention?

Watch for shingles that are curled, cracked or missing, especially near the ridge and edges where wind hits hardest. Granules piling up in gutters, water stains on ceilings and daylight in the attic are other warnings. If you notice any of these, an inspection now can keep a small repair from turning into a larger job.
